15 Mar Your 2023 Impact
The Market Street Mission is an experienced organization with a proven method of helping to fight alcoholism, drug abuse, hunger, and homelessness in New Jersey, across our three locations: Morristown, Asbury Park, and Newton.
In 2023, your generosity helped the Mission serve a total of 140,547 meals and provide 44,703 nights of shelter to our community guests and recovery program residents. This is an increase in 13,534 meals and 2,721 nights of shelter over 2022, and we are so grateful for your support that allowed us to meet the needs of all those who came to our doors.
Your partnership with the Mission also made it possible for 39 men to recover from their addictions, rebuild their lives, and graduate from our Life Change Program in 2023. Praise the Lord for how He is changing hearts and lives here! Each year our program offers thousands of hours of counseling, 12-step meetings, work therapy, chapel services, educational development, and life skills classes. These components prepare our residents to rejoin society with the resources they need to succeed, as well as restored hope for the future.
In 2023, three of our residents became certified food handlers, 14 residents received forklift certifications, 51 state IDs and birth certificates were renewed, and seven program alumni became official Certified Peer Recovery Specialists – all thanks to your kindness and generosity! Your support also helped us further develop our aftercare options for our graduates.
Last year we completed a second-floor addition to one of our sober houses to increase capacity, and we purchased an additional house as well. This brings our total to four sober houses in Morristown and one in Neptune, and we are grateful for the opportunity to offer continued care in an environment of accountability and fellowship to our Life Change Program graduates.
Lamar, one of our 2023 graduates, said, “When I first got to this program, I was very grateful. People welcome you and love you. They don’t look at you as an outcast; they look at you as a person that can help and change. It’s not just about drugs and alcohol; it’s about my thoughts being renewed and my heart being softened. I thank God for allowing the Mission to be used to help lost, homeless, struggling men get back on their feet and become the men God wanted them to be. I hope people will support the Mission because they rebuild confident men who were once lost. They bring them back to the reality of who they are.” This is the kind of life-change your generosity makes possible.
Thank you to our incredible donors for funding our work and providing care like meals, shelter, and addiction recovery for our neighbors in need. Thank you also to our amazing volunteers for contributing 9,136 hours of service in 2023! We could not do our work without you. God bless you!
