16 Nov 2022 Jersey Shore Rescue 5k & Family Walk
We celebrated our 5th Annual Jersey Shore Rescue Mission 5K Race & Family Walk on Saturday October 29! It was an incredible morning with over 350 participants joining us. Our largest turn out so far! Thank you to everyone who made this event possible. Those who were unable to join us in person were able to take part in our Virtual 5K and run or walk anywhere in the world during Race Weekend (Oct 28 – Oct 30).
Our 5K Race started on the boardwalk in Asbury Park at the Langosta Lounge, our Venue Sponsor, and continued through Ocean Grove before turning around in Bradley Beach and returning to Asbury Park. Runners enjoyed scenic views of the ocean on this flat course. Our Family Walk started in the same location and turned around halfway in Ocean Grove to complete the 2 mile course. With 2 water stations along the course, participants stayed well hydrated! Littler participants joined us on the sand for our Kids Fun Run and enjoyed age-appropriate sprints. Langosta Lounge provided some delicious post-race snacks while our participants and volunteers joined us for the Awards ceremony and Giveaways!
This year’s race brought a special focus on teams! We had a record 18 teams participating with over 150 combined team members! Teams earned special incentives from t-shirts, special bibs, and easy race morning check-in! Our Race Planning Team is excited to continue this team focus in the years to come.
Team Mission, which was comprised of Mission Staff, Family and Friends, was our largest team with 30 members! Most members participated in the 2 Mile Walk, but a few ran the 5K! Anna Ruberti, the Mission’s Chief Financial Officer and also the Team Mission Captain, was excited to form this team for the first time this year. “The idea to start this team came to me a few months ago when our staff began preparing for the race. Every day I see just how dedicated each of our staff members are to the Mission and how their desire to serve goes above and beyond their daily duties. So what better way to show our love and support but to go to the starting line and walk this race together.”
Aside from the registrations, over $2,800 was raised in donations to feed and care for those in need in our community. Proceeds from this event benefit the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission’s Emergency Services and our Life Change Recovery Program. Registrants and volunteers were also encouraged to bring new and gently used winter gear to the race to donate for our annual Coat Giveaway later in November. Our team was encouraged by the generous outpouring from our community!

Race Day would not have been possible without the 38 volunteers who shared their morning with us! Thank you for serving with our team!
We are also thankful for each of our amazing sponsors! Please be sure to visit their businesses and thank them for their support in our community!
